SPRINGFIELD, MO – Glendale Christian Church’s mission extends far beyond the walls of the attractive contemporary building it occupies on the outskirts of Missouri’s third largest city. A self-described “missions-minded” church, Glendale strives to devote 18 percent of its budget to outreach programs in its hometown, such as Kids Against Hunger, and across the world in the form of programs like the Central India Christian Mission.
Still, with its emphasis on contemporary worship services and a large thriving congregation, Glendale Christian wanted its building to be bright, upbeat and open; a goal that was totally incompatible with the structure’s faltering lighting system. Church elders knew it was time for a lighting upgrade, but ever mindful of their commitment to missionary work, they were intent on looking for a cost effective solution. It was at that point that Paragon 360 of Springfield stepped in and provided the church with a comprehensive but surprisingly affordable lighting package that utilized 90 COLORdash Par-Quad 18 par-style fixtures from CHAUVET Professional.
“After only 9 years in the facility, the existing house lighting system was near total failure,” said Donnie Brawner, CEO of Paragon 360. “The church was spending countless dollars in maintenance due to abnormally short lamp life. The church spent excessive money on frequent lift rentals. The compact fluorescent lamps they were using as lamps in the old system were putting a drain on the HVAC system. They wanted a new design that included house lights.”
Brawner and his team at Paragon 360 selected the COLORdash Par-Quad 18 for the new house light in large part because its amber LEDs allow it to produce any variation of white as well as extremely smooth saturated colors with no distractive multi-colored shadows. The quality of the fixture’s whites was essential to creating the kind of supportive, welcoming atmosphere that Glendale Christian was seeking for its services, and the vibrancy of the fixture’s colors provided a much-appreciated level of versatility.
“One of the biggest benefits to the LED house-lighting system is that now we can extend the creative lighting environment from the stage to every seat in the house,” said Alan Davis, Worship Pastor at Glendale Christian. “With our worship space being a multipurpose space, we use the multicolored LED lighting for many children’s and youth activities. It’s great that our new white-light LED house lights can become multicolored special effect lights also when we turn the space into a laser tag venue for our youth.”
According to Pastor Davis, the light output of the COLORdash Par-Quad 18 fixtures has worked very well for general audience light, athletics and special effect lighting. The new house lights have also reduced over-all energy consumption and lowered maintenance and upkeep expenses.
In addition to the COLORdash Par-Quad 18 house lights, Paragon 360 installed a stage lighting system that was integrated with the church’s existing LEDs. Paragon 360 also installed a stage controller plus various architectural control stations throughout the building and provided the church with training to operate the new system.
“Paragon 360 really understood our situation and the need for the flexibility of the lighting design to match the flexibility of the space” said Pastor Davis. “They also worked with our budget, our limitations, and our expectations. They delivered on every aspect of this project, completely met our needs and helped us plan for the future with professionalism, excellence and integrity at every step.”
