Paragon 360 provided a comprehensive AVL system to deliver a multi-functional space for Prestonwood Baptist North Campus.
Paragon Creates a Multi-Purpose Space for Prestonwood Students
Paragon 360 continues its work with Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the largest churches in America, to develop a multi-functional space for their North Campus. Prestonwood Baptist wanted to optimize their space at the North Campus to be effective as a worship space and a gym while navigating the inherent structural challenges required for the space to also be a tornado shelter. While working with their budget, Paragon delivered a multi-functional infrastructure that left room for growth for the campus. The project included audio, video and lighting installation that enables Prestonwood to adapt the infrastructure to support the various needs whether that be worship on Sunday, athletic events on Friday or school activities throughout the week.
Lighting System Variations Allow for Multiple Uses
With the expanding needs of this multi-purpose space, Paragon designed two lighting systems to meet the needs for the space during worship and a more traditional gym environment. The installation of colored house lighting for worship created an immersive experience for everyone in the audience, allowing participants to fully experience the worship versus watching as an observer. The second lighting system was designed to deliver bright lighting, traditional to an athletic venue, meeting all of the regulations for sporting events.
The on-stage lighting uses a custom motorized rigging batten, the Prodigy P1500E, with built-in safety features that enable volunteers to operate. It also includes a small moving light package and trussing. Paragon installed the Grand MA3 on PC CommandWing lighting console. The system is supported by DMX-over-Ethernet using sACN to run more channels over less cable when establishing the network. It is very configurable and is an advantage for special events and integrating rented equipment.
Consistency Among Campuses
Paragon installed a 13' X 36' foot LED wall similar to the we deployed in the Prestonwood Youth Facility, with additional optimizations to effectively support the space. Additionally, three 86 inch Panasonic displays and two 65 inch Panasonic TH-65 EQ 1 were installed along with a confidence monitor.
The LED wall required strategic consideration to ensure a great user experience. It was designed to allow the audience sitting on the back row of the bleacher section to see the top of the screen. Another challenge in the design phase was the size of the 3.9-pixel pitch, as it was calculated based on the nearest viewer and the height of the mounting. Paragon used a pro-video server to map the screen and create layers for the pro-presenter to map into the LED wall. Paragon also developed a router that connects across campuses to bring the infrastructure to a centralized location within each campus.
Dual Audio Decisions
Prestonwood's multi-purpose space required an audio system that was high-powered for youth experiences while also meeting the requirements for regulation-sanctioned courts. Additionally, it was important for volunteers and students to be able to operate these systems.
Paragon chose to install Danley J7 loudspeakers as they cover large audiences with clear and consistent audio and met important height requirements for sporting events. QSC was used for processing and system control utilizing touch screen control for lobby control. The system is supported by two Midas M32 consoles, one for FOH and one for monitors. Paragon was able to utilize owner-provided equipment in the design to maximize value for the client. Paragon also built custom wiring looms that allow for clean and flexible connections to the FOH carts that support audio, lighting, and video systems.
Built for Functionality and Expansion
An important consideration for the space was the ability to stow away all gear so it could function as efficiently, regardless of the event. Paragon Fabrication developed custom rolling desks to store in an off-stage room making the room transition as seamless as possible. A final requirement for this multi-functional space was to leave room for expansion. Paragon built with the future in mind across audio, video and lighting. This includes an audio system ready for fiber, a video system that can be expanded when the infrastructure is needed and a small moving light package and trussing designed and installed with the growth in mind.
