Silver Dollar City, an 1880s-style theme park located near Branson, Missouri, presents six world-class festivals each year from April through December. The 55-acre park has twelve stage venues, twenty two rides, twelve restaurants, sixty shops and over 1600 employees, including 100 resident craftsmen. But it began as an accessory to Marvel Cave.
Silver Dollar City is owned and operated by Herschend Family Entertainment (HFE). Paragon 360 has been working with HFE since 1991 as their primary supplier of audio, video and lighting design and installation throughout its park property. In addition to the various theatre venues, Paragon has provided sound reinforcement and audio special effects to 80% of the rides in the park and supplied audio throughout much of the park.
One of the center piece facilities on the park property is the 4,500 seat Echo Hollow Amphitheater. Paragon 360 is proud to announce the recent completion of an audio system upgrade for the amphitheater. This project had been in the discussion stages for the last few years and when approval was given to investigate moving forward with the replacement of the aging existing system, the SDC staff contacted Mark Morton, COO Paragon 360, to start the process.
Paragon’s audio design team put together a system capable of handling not only the nightly house shows that are held at the facility but also a variety of special performances and festivals throughout the theme parks season such as concerts from national country touring artists, gospel shows, live ESPN tournaments and national cheerleading competitions just to name a few.
After thorough investigation, a plan was put in place to install a new Avid digital house console system along with a new house PA speaker system. The speaker system included Electrovoice’s Xi installation series and the new EVI dual 15 inch subwoofer system, all weatherproofed for this outdoor application. Electrovoice amplifiers and the Netmax DSP processing system were utilized to complete the signal chain.
Overseeing the installation was Mark Coble, lead technician and systems commissioning expert for Paragon 360. Working closely with the SDC staff, who provided mounting towers for the speakers and assisted greatly in making this installation go smoothly, the result far exceeded the original expectations.
First use of the new system was for the annual Young Christians weekend in April, featuring a variety of top Christian acts from around the country. Nearly all of the visiting sound engineers utilized the Avid’s ability to be run via iPad from the audience areas. The new system has received rave reviews from all that used it and the staff from SDC. Paragon 360 is proud to have worked with the professional staff at SDC on this project. Utilizing a teamwork approach, this project resulted in a successful installation on budget and on time.
